Is This You?
You're paying for a dozen SaaS tools that don't talk to each other, and nobody knows the total cost.
The same systems keep breaking, and every fix creates a new problem somewhere else.
Your team wants to use AI but nobody knows where to start or how to get consistent results.
You're paying monthly fees for a website that hasn't changed in years.
You need a senior technical voice in the room but can't justify a full-time CTO hire.
You need custom software — an internal tool, a portal, an integration — and off-the-shelf doesn't fit.
How It Works
From a conversation about what's wrong, it typically goes one of three ways:
1-2 weeks, fixed scope
A deep look at the full system — code, infrastructure, integrations, data flows, operations, and costs.
Deliverable: Root causes + prioritized fix plan + cost/risk map.
Best for: Something's wrong but it's not clear exactly what.
2-6+ weeks, milestone-based
Build the solution — internal tool, integration, replacement system — and hand it off working.
Deliverable: Working system in production + handoff docs.
Best for: The problem is clear and needs to be solved.
Monthly retainer
Architecture decisions, code review, delivery guidance, hiring input. Senior technical leadership without a full-time hire.
Deliverable: Technical leadership + weekly execution + accountability.
Best for: Need ongoing technical leadership.

Mythic Works was founded by Jason Flatford, a product and technology leader with 17 years of experience scaling software systems — including Melee.gg (~400k users, ~13k organizer partners) and enterprise tooling for StarCityGames (~100k event attendees).
When systems are brittle, expensive, or blocking delivery, Jason helps teams get unstuck — whether that means diagnosing the root cause, building the fix, or providing ongoing technical leadership.
The philosophy is simple: understand the real problem before proposing solutions, deliver working systems instead of slide decks, and be honest about what's possible.

Typically small to mid-size companies (5-100 people) with software systems that have grown complex, expensive, or unreliable. This includes SaaS companies, startups with technical debt, and established businesses whose technology has outgrown their team's capacity to manage it.
An assessment is a 1-2 week deep dive into your systems — code, infrastructure, integrations, data flows, and costs. The deliverable is a written report with root causes identified, a prioritized fix plan, and a cost/risk map. It's designed to give you clarity on what's actually wrong and what to do about it.
A fractional CTO provides senior technical leadership on a part-time basis. This includes architecture decisions, code review, delivery guidance, vendor evaluation, and hiring input. It's for companies that need experienced technical leadership but don't have the budget or need for a full-time executive.
Assessments are fixed-scope, fixed-price. Fix engagements are milestone-based with clear deliverables. Fractional CTO is a monthly retainer. We'll discuss pricing during our initial call once we understand the scope of what you need.
Yes. Most engagements are fully remote. We work with clients across time zones and use async communication (Slack, email, Loom) supplemented by video calls as needed. On-site work is available for clients in the Mid-Atlantic region when it makes sense.
If there's a fit, we'll scope out the engagement — whether that's an assessment, a fix, or ongoing fractional CTO work. You'll get a clear proposal with deliverables, timeline, and pricing. No pressure, no follow-up spam. If it's not a fit, we'll tell you honestly.
15 minutes to discuss what you're dealing with and whether Mythic Works can help.
No pitch, no pressure. Just a conversation about your situation and honest advice on next steps.
