MW-03 · Job status

A single screen shows you the status of every job.

This way, customers won't need to call for updates, and your team won't have to walk around to check on jobs. I create a status and scheduling board that your staff can update as they work, replacing the whiteboard, spreadsheets, and phone calls.

$15,000 to $50,000, fixed. It starts with the $2,500 diagnostic.

The work order

In
No matter how you track jobs now: a whiteboard, spreadsheets, job folders, or phone calls to fill in the gaps.
Out
You get one board that shows every job, its current stage, who's working on it, and when it's due. The people doing the work keep it updated. If you want, you can also have a status link to share with customers.
Signed off by
Your office lead decides what the stages are and who can move jobs between them.
$15,000 to $50,000 · weeks set in the diagnostic Ongoing support after the build starts at $1,500 per month.

Common situations for this solution

In shops, trades, and service businesses, jobs move through the same stages each week. Usually, the only way to know a job's status is to ask whoever has it. The real issue isn't the calls. It's that job status isn't visible to everyone.

The board only works if it's easier to update than your current whiteboard. That's why I start by talking with the people who will use it, right on your shop floor, before thinking about the software.

  • StarCityGames · 2011 to 2012

    Concierge

I built a system for large events that handles registration, seating, staffing, badge printing, and cash reconciliation. With it, any staff member can help any player because they have all the information they need. It served about 100,000 attendees across events and was used by hundreds of contractors and an in-house team of around 11 people.

  • Melee · 2019 to 2025

    Melee

I created live operations dashboards for events and support that update in real time. These dashboards help a small team manage large events. I was the only early developer and led the product until 2025.

  • NILmetrics · Co-Founder and CTO

    NILmetrics

I co-founded and built a data and scoring platform from the ground up. It keeps ESPN data for about 10,000 Division I athletes and hundreds of teams in sync with daily, weekly, and manual updates. The platform includes scheduled scoring jobs, admin tools for backfills, and dashboards for four types of buyers.

Christmas Cheer project for Onslow Community Outreach

I'm currently working on a fixed-price project for a nonprofit in North Carolina. It's a platform that will run their Christmas Cheer program for the 2026 season.

When this solution is a good fit, and when it isn't

A good fit

  • Jobs follow the same steps each week.
  • Every day, someone spends valuable time answering the question, "Where is it?"
  • Your staff will use a screen to update job status if it's faster than using the whiteboard.

Not a fit

  • There's already a job-management app that fits your trade. I can tell you which one works best for you.
  • Some businesses have jobs that are all unique, with no shared stages.
  • If no one is responsible for keeping the system updated, it won't stay current.
